Today, as an entrepreneur, Elena’s work bridges the worlds of investment, psychology and leadership.

She is on a mission to build environments, where leaders stay whole and capital improves lives.

Capital

Directing capital toward solutions that improve lives

Elena spent over a decade inside institutional private equity evaluating investment transactions, leading fund and co-investment due diligence processes.

Over time she developed a strong interest in impact capital, particularly in areas where investment can create both financial returns and meaningful societal outcomes.

Her focus areas include climate adaptation and energy transition, education, health systems and financial inclusion

Elena has also pursued academic studies in Microfinance and Climate change for decision makers, deepening her understanding of how capital can create positive societal impact.

Through Private Equity for Climate™, she facilitates introductions between investors, funds, and potential investee companies.

Capital Experience

$500m+ portfolio oversights

$100m+ capital allocated

15+ PE fund advisory boards

100+ impact funds evaluated

Leadership

Expanding leadership capacity under pressure

While working in high-stakes environments, Elena experienced burnout herself. That experience led her to study psychology, nervous system science, and parts-based therapy to understand how pressure affects leadership judgment and relationships.

She is a psychologist and psychotherapist in training, integrating therapeutic insight into leadership advisory work.

Through EverVenture Consulting, she offers Team Restoration experience to Executive teams, and the Influential Leader program to executives to help prevent burnout and strengthen leadership capacity.

Her focus is on creating environments where high performance does not require self-abandonment.

Impact

Strengthening the environments that shape society

Elena believes that the quality of society depends largely on the environments leaders create and the capital they deploy.

Her work connects leadership development and capital stewardship to ensure that financial resources contribute to long-term societal well-being.

She is particularly passionate about initiatives that expand opportunity and improve quality of life across generations.

Research

Human Capacity and Leadership

At the core of Elena’s work is the understanding that leadership capacity is neuro-biological.

Leaders operating under sustained pressure often experience changes in their nervous system that affect their relational intelligence and decision making.

To explore this further, Elena developed the Nervous System Capacity Index™ (NSCI), a framework that assesses how leaders carry pressure across four dimensions: physical bracing, emotional suppression, emotional load and recovery capacity.

She is currently conducting academic research on the relationship between the nervous system reactivity and burnout in organisational leaders.

Biography

Elena' work bridges the worlds of investment, psychology and leadership.

Elena Shirokaya is an entrepreneur, leadership advisor, and impact investor with more than twenty years of experience across consulting, institutional private equity, and leadership development.

After overseeing $500M+ in private equity portfolios and serving on multiple private equity advisory boards, she shifted her focus toward strengthening the human capacity behind major capital decisions.

Today she works with executive teams and investors to expand leadership capacity and connect capital with solutions in climate, education, and health.

Personal Story

Elena grew up between instability and resilience.

Her father struggled with alcohol, and life at home could be unpredictable. But every summer she returned to the Ukrainian countryside, where she spent months working in gardens and listening to stories from people who had survived the war and rebuilt their lives.

It was there she learned her first lesson in leadership and legacy: people still spoke about her grandfather with respect long after he passed away.

How you treat people outlives any title you hold. Those lessons continue to shape her work today.

In 2006, Elena immigrated to Belgium, where she met her husband Joaquin. They since, now as a family of five, lived in Belgium, the UK, Spain and now Bulgaria.

I am pleased to offer my earnest recommendation for Elena. Her depth of experience and personal intuition bring invaluable insight to any business situation. I had the good fortune of having Elena on my LP advisory board and as a trusted investor.

While all of my investors have been important, Elena stands out with her rare ability to absorb and track the most minute details while maintaining a clear focus on their implications within the broader picture.

My business has always been extremely complicated, yet Elena consistently asks the right questions to ensure she is fully up to speed, even during periods of rapid change. Elena is both a team player and a natural leader. I have no doubt that her skills and personal traits will drive tremendous success in her current and future ventures.

Elena has been closely involved with Alder over many years, first as an investor representative in our funds since 2012 and later as a member of the investment committee between 2020 and 2023.

During that time, she has developed a deep understanding of both our investment approach and our evolution as a firm, and she has always brought a thoughtful, well-rounded perspective to discussions.

Elena brings a level of reflection that goes beyond the numbers. She has a genuine interest in how investment decisions connect to long-term outcomes, including sustainability and organisational dynamics.

It has been a pleasure working with Elena over the years. She is thoughtful, engaged, and brings a perspective that adds real value to the conversation. I would welcome the opportunity to work with her again.

I believe her perspective is increasingly relevant for investors and management teams operating under sustained pressure.
